Adjectives: alto, alta, altos, altas
In Spanish, adjectives match the noun they describe: masculine or feminine, singular or plural.
PART01
Theory
Look at how the adjective ends. That tells you how many forms it has.
Ends in -o: four forms
| Singular | Plural | |
|---|---|---|
| Masc. | un chico alto | unos chicos altos |
| Fem. | una chica alta | unas chicas altas |
Ends in -e or a consonant: two forms
| Ending | Singular | Plural |
|---|---|---|
| -e +s | el coche grande | los coches grandes |
| la casa grande | las casas grandes | |
| consonant +es | el libro fácil | los libros fáciles |
| la pregunta fácil | las preguntas fáciles |
Adjective after the noun
un coche rojo = a red car
Not un rojo coche.
With ser, it still matches
La casa es bonita. = The house is pretty.
Los coches son rápidos. = The cars are fast.
Mixed group → masculine
Pedro y Lucía son altos. = Pedro and Lucía are tall.
One man in the group is enough.
Nationalities add -a
español → española = Spanish (m → f)
inglés → inglesa (the accent goes)
-or adds -a too
trabajador → trabajadora
(hardworking)
Bonus: buen and mal
Before a masculine noun:
bueno → buen = good
malo → mal = bad
un buen amigo = a good friend
