Possessives and demonstratives: mi, nuestro, este, ese
My, your, our; this, that, that over there. They all agree with the thing, not the person.
PART01
Theory
Possessives say whose; demonstratives say how far away.
Possessives
| Whose | One thing | More things |
|---|---|---|
| my | mi libro | mis libros |
| your | tu casa | tus casas |
| his, her, your (usted) | su coche | sus coches |
| our | nuestro piso nuestra casa | nuestros amigos nuestras amigas |
| your (vosotros) | vuestro hijo vuestra hija | vuestros hijos |
| their, your (ustedes) | su perro | sus perros |
Demonstratives
| How far | Masc. | Fem. |
|---|---|---|
| this / these (near me) | este libro estos libros | esta mesa estas mesas |
| that / those (near you) | ese libro esos libros | esa mesa esas mesas |
| that / those (over there) | aquel libro aquellos libros | aquella mesa aquellas mesas |
Agree with the thing
mis libros = my books
(even if there’s only one of me)
nuestro and vuestro have gender
nuestro piso = our flat
nuestra casa = our house
su is ambiguous
su casa = his / her / their / your house
Clearer: la casa de él = his house
tu vs tú
tu = your
tú = you
esto, eso: unknown things
¿Qué es esto? = What is this?
Eso no me gusta. = I don’t like that.
They never go before a noun.
As pronouns
Este no, ese.
= Not this one, that one.
